I aint sayin' I  beat the Devil.

But I did drink his beer for free.

And then I stole his song.

Actually it was Kris Kristofferson.

That doesn't surprise me. I just heard Waylon sing it.

I think Johnny Cash might have sang it also. Good song.

Some of the best lines in any song to be found in this song by Kris:

"my thirsty needed whiskey, my hungry needed beans

But it's been a month of paydays, since I heard that eagle scream!"

Ssssssweeeeeeeettt

Heard this when I was a teenager. Never forgot it. Lived my life by it:

"Highly intelligent people talk about abstract things: concepts, theories, philosophy....

People of average intelligence talk about more concrete things: cars, sports, vacations...

Stupid people talk about........other people."

When you think about it, and after a lifetime of observation, it's true.

Everything in Moderation.

The only dumb question is the unasked question!

Keep your mouth shut and your bowels open - my late Fathers favorite phrase

There is the right way, the wrong way and the Navy way!

Old Navy guy who was on the Carrier Midway worked for me in the 1980s when I was stationed in Japan.  Told me the only thing that screwed up the navy was:

Rust and Civilians.

His second saying about Civilians is they were like Seagulls.  All they did was:

Eat, Sh*t, Squawk

PS.  He was a confirmed bachelor type although he certainly played the field with the Japanese and was really sweet on a local female Japanese Realtor.  Sadly he passed as a building superintendent in his home city of Toledo Ohio in his early 70s from Lung Cancer.  One interesting guy.

I actually have a nine page list (and growing) titled Words of Wisdom and Humor.

A few years ago on the Alaska Outdoors forum there was a woman who went by the handle Seraphina. She could be very profound. Unfortunately, she was dying from cancer and has since passed on. One of many of her statements that caught my eye and ended up in my collection was...

"I don't care about others' beliefs, I care about their behavior."

Here's something I poached off an RV website.

"We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned,

so as to have the life that is waiting for us."

My mom had a few words of wisdom she embedded into me.  Some of my favorites.

If wishes were horses, we would all ride.

Don't let that money burn a hole in your pocket.

You think you are to good for that, maybe you think your sh!t don't stink too?

An old friend of mine coined: "Its a great life if you don't weaken." Always cracked me up for some reason.

"Let your conscience be your guide." A staple from my mother.

One of mine to my kids when they were being whiney weenies: "No blood, no bones, no sympathy."

My dad died at 51 of lymphoma, I was 18.  Something he said to me before he died was "work to live, don't live to work".   I don't know where he heard that one but I have needed to remind myself of it a few times in my life when my career was chewing up my life.  It helps put things in perspective.                                   Alan

Just the other day I read,"Life's short, smile while you still have teeth."

Years ago, when the kids were small and they were pouty, I would sing the song....."Everybody hates me

                   Nobody likes me

                   I'm gonna go eat worms

                    Big fat juicy ones

                    Little bitty skinny ones

                    I'm gonna go eat worms

                    Bite their heads off

                    Suck the juice out

                    Throw the skins away

                    Everybody hates me

                    Nobody likes me

I'm gonna go eat worms today.

This usually worked to get them to smile or at least try to punch me.
