Maple syrup on quail

Recommended Posts

I've been putting maple syrup on my quail lately.  I really like it.  Does that make me a bad person?

Nope.  Not necessarily bad, just maybe a little strange.  And fortunate.... to have some quail to garnish however you choose.

No, no of course not.  I mean it is not as if dousing quail with maple syrup is just totally and outrageously bizarre like -- well, like hauling firewood in a Miata.

Maple syrup is like bacon. Everything tastes better with it. Hell, bacon tastes better with it.

I eat quail the way the good Lord intended, FRIED.

My bride adds honey to perfectly cooked quail.   I quess you are welcome to mess em up with syrup if you like. <gr>

I don’t see why not. Fried chicken and waffles with butter and maple syrup is a favorite around here.

Not when you cut it 50% with bourbon and use it as a glaze.

That works.

Other options include simmering maple syrup with some fresh ginger pieces in it until fragrant, remove the ginger and then use the syrup as a glaze. Good on poultry; great on fish like salmon.

Or, replace the ginger with Serrano peppers and use the same technique.

Seems like maple syrup is the new ketchup...it's everywhere it probably shouldn't be.

Sweet glazes have gone with various meats (Gamebirds included) for a very long time. I've tasted a few that pair up with quail and one I'm very fond of

on grilled woodcock. No reason Maple syrup wouldn't be a great part of a meat course. Maple Cured Ham or Bacon anyone?
