      2018 UJ SUMMER AUCTION   06/23/2018

It's time....to start thinking about and preparing for the 2018 UJ SUMMER AUCTION. This Auction has become a UJ Tradition, with loads of great gear donated by our Ad Sponsors and Membership. Items range from Upland vests...Birddog gear...hunting and fishing trips...silver engraved money clips...custom knives, to great food products. I will be starting to contact Upland Ad Sponsors and Members, and will start the dedicated Auction Forum soon. I will include links to past Auctions so Members get an idea of what's typically available to bid on, and to see if they have anything they would like to offer for bidding. Stay tuned!

Boy was I off on that! Closer to 2 1/2! Bought a book and a nice leg-o-mutton case and got to catch up with my old friend Glenn Baker.... and his lovely wife. Didn't see anyone else I know. (I think they saw me coming and hid!!)

Was there today drooling over the shotgun porn, Don that place is a long where from anywhere. Gives new meaning to the middle of no where. Beautiful place.

Met two 11 year old twins that shot the sporting clays course and the 5 stand. About 100 shots with their 16 gauge sxs. Tough kids, future champs. They have a 6 month old GSP they are training. Look out, these boys will be a force to be reckoned with!

Well, we did so good that the management asked us if we'd like to hire on as instructors. We all declined as our bosses needed us more. ;~)

OK, so that wasn't really the truth, but they didn't throw us out either, so that's a plus.

So here's the lineup: Dennis, Jerry, Kurt, Garry and me. Dead shots every one. OK, so that's not entirely the truth either.

Really a very nice "Hunter's Course", and very challenging to say the least. We had a beautiful day for a shoot. Hardly a bird was missed. OK, so that wasn't entirely......

The problem with our misses was that we had Brad flushing the birds for us....Well. that wasn't entirely true either, but we had to have someone to blame for some of our poor shots.

Oh, and by the way you'll notice that I was the only one wearing a UJ hat. I get extra points for that. ;~)

A beautiful breezy day at the hollow. Got there around 8 and cooked some Nj state breakfast sandwiches(porkroll, egg and cheese) while the guys prepared to show the targets who was boss. Watched them shoots a tough 5 stand. Met Tut and had a good chat ,always good to meet another Golden hunter.. Got to Shoot Gunsrus new Fox...Not entirely true. Had lunch and caught up with Irish Joe but did not see his new rude friend. Dropped of some turkey Kielbasa off to my uncle who lives a mile down the road and talked some serious rifle sighting in info. Drove an hour up to a camp in NY to pick up my dogs and another couple hours home. It was a good day.

Fun time with the group! Jerry (Jpari ) met me at my house and we rode up together.it was great having company for the ride up. Thanks Jerry! Polecat cooked up some mighty fine breakfasts or us! He's da man! My shooting was less than stellar as usual but hey it was sure fun showing them how to miss. It was great meeting Tut ( hope you can make Catskill!). Got to see Al's Fox that was being restocked and fancied up. SPECTACULAR! Drooled over many of the fine sxs in the vendors tent. Great day and lots of fun

Another great time with the UJ crew.  I was really looking forward to this shoot since I will be missing the Catskills event later this summer.  As usual the UJ spirit made the whole event and it was great catching up with everyone.

Thanks to Chef Polecat for a nice breakfast sandwich!

Don sorry we missed you we must have been on the course when you arrived.

Kurt's excellent shooting instruction helped me out on a few of the tough targets but i managed to miss the easy ones!  The targets are set up for decent grouse type targets and all had their share of tricks despite looking "easy".  I think there are few stations I would have liked to stay and burn some shells on like the 90 degree crosser with wobble trap and cranked up spring and limited shooting window.  That was a screamer and very little time to make the shot.

Lots of eye candy side by sides but sadly none fit within my "gun fund".

I gave AL'S  30 inch 20 Ga A grade with custom stock a thorough evaluation and gave my suggestions to Dan who agreed Al would like the following changes:

  • Cut the stock back to 14 and 1/4 and get rid that beautiful skeleton butplate.
  • Cut those 30 barrels down to 26 for a faster feel
  • open the chokes up to cylinder and cylinder
  • gold plate the triggers and add a gold lab holding a duck to the underplate

Well thats not entirely true!

:D

It's a beauty Al and Tut's custom was gorgeous as well!  I want them both!!

PS: I just checked the official scores it looks like 76/80 was high gun at the main event.  We really need to up our game gents I think I missed 4 targets by the second station!

My gun now. Traded Dan for a beat up Sterly.  Be careful when you open the case, the fine and well dried vintage pad may crumble.

Great seeing all the gents, really wish  I could have met Don and grouse28, but it was the best to see Polecat with porkroll frying on the grill when I pulled up!

Amazing gun Al.  Rather amazing amazing looking walnut.  Might have owned that blank at one time, but I've owned many over the years and many of those ended up on Dan Rossiters hand at one point or another.  You will love the skeleton buttplate.  Amazing work as you and I have come to expect from Dan.  It was quite droolable as they say.   Great talking with Polecat and the other UJ members I bumped into.   Polecat and I talked Goldens'  Goldens are cool for sure. :)
