Garmin DC40 collar antenna broke

Recommended Posts

The antenna of my dogs DC 40 collar broke clean off at the base of the receiver.  Anyone fix these before?

Got the new antenna - works great, but one issue.  WAAAY too long for my dogs.  I imagine they have the long antenna for the really big running hounds.  Any reason I can't cut these back for my dogs that run normally at 30-100 yards, and not the 1/2-2 mile range?

I would leave them long and maybe attach an additional zip tie to the collar.  If a dog gets away from you and you really need to find you can never have too much range.  Before I started running gps collars I lost a male setter that had never ranged over 100 yards on the first day of an out of state trip.  More range is always better than less range.  The supra tuff collars are the way to go.
