Achilles tear

Recommended Posts

Brad Adrian

Monday my almost 5 year old pointer tore he Achilles, surgery was yesterday. I am sure there are some here that have gone through this. My question to you, what can I expect for her future? Anything close to what she was? I have the added of a vet that specializes in rehab. Obviously this won't affect her nose or bird scene of which she has a ton of, just interested in others experiences.

I hope she heals quicker than me!  Good luck to you both.

Mojo for quick healing.   Never heard of dog with such injury.  I imagine bettet this injury vs a knee acl.

Brad' I had a coming 3 year old E Setter tear his achilles. Found a good Ortho surgeon to do the repair. was told to not let hhim run or jump for a year. I walked him on a check cord every day for 9 months then gave up on holding him back. It was a long 9 months but the good news is he will turn 13 in Jan. and he and l took a walk this morning and he pointed 2 hens and a rooster. I have to use a gps to keep track of him. Hopefully you will have as good or better results.

Do a search for ACL/MCL and you should find several threads.  I just had to put down a 14 year old pointer yesterday who had TPLO reconstructive surgery on both back legs when she was five and six years old.  Her gait changed some but she hunted just fine through this past February without any signs of arthritis or other degradation besides what you would normally expect in a 14 year old dog.  It is not cheap, but I consider it some of the best money I ever spent.

Interlochen, this was an Achilles tear which is a totally different injury. Don, I did have the surgery done by an orthopedic specialist. She is on lockdown for 9 weeks,  at that point the pt will begin. I am fortunate that my vet specializes in this.he has already fit her for a brace that she will have to hunt with for the rest of her life
