      WELCOME NEW UJ MEMBERS   06/25/2017

It seems the word is out and UJ is enjoying a steady stream of newly Registered Members. Welcome to all of you, and we are all looking forward to your positive participation. I strongly suggest you review the Board Guidelines that have been in place since 2002. The most significant thing being that UJ is a NO POLITICS BOARD. LInk:  UJ BOARD GUIDELINES   Also UJ stays afloat mainly through Member Donations. Once a Donation is made you are placed in the Contributing Member Group with extra Priviliges. I am getting very few new Donations so hopefully this will spur that on a bit. Link:  New Members/Donations/Priviliges

Blow down grouse

Recommended Posts

Hub

Not trying to come off pompous.  Maybe it reads like that.  In my circle of buddies talking around the woodstove the blow down grouse are the dummies.  I think to myself, 'please let this green pup find a grouse dumb enough to think it's safe coming out the other side of a blow down like I am a fox not a guy with a 20 gauge and a 30 yard reach'.  If you want to talk hard to kill grouse, let's talk about young pine plantations.  Let's talk about grouse dropping out if tree's 15 ft up when you expect them on the ground.  Let's talk about kamikaze grouse that flush straight at you.  Those are where ones I miss.  I still say give me a grouse that holds tight and I know exactly where it is.  That bird is in trouble.

GoPro Hero 3+ in 1080p at 120 frames per second.  Probably $100 worth on Craigslist right now.

The tough part about blowdowns or logging "slash" that we all tend to run into isn't necessarily what the bird does in particular, but "when" he does it.

Inevitably if the bird is coming out of one tangle you can guarantee I'm stuck in another or I have one leg over the trunk of a downed tree and I'm trying to avoid the pecker high 4" spike of a broken branch that is threatening my boys downstairs, meanwhile the shotgun is open and being carried in my off hand.....that exact moment is when Mr. Grouse decides to bolt and preset the easiest open looks of the season......

Meanwhile I just verbally abuse him as he flies away, and I probably come close to skewering my nads on that 4" spike.
