      WELCOME NEW UJ MEMBERS   06/25/2017

It seems the word is out and UJ is enjoying a steady stream of newly Registered Members. Welcome to all of you, and we are all looking forward to your positive participation. I strongly suggest you review the Board Guidelines that have been in place since 2002. The most significant thing being that UJ is a NO POLITICS BOARD. LInk:  UJ BOARD GUIDELINES   Also UJ stays afloat mainly through Member Donations. Once a Donation is made you are placed in the Contributing Member Group with extra Priviliges. I am getting very few new Donations so hopefully this will spur that on a bit. Link:  New Members/Donations/Priviliges

French Pointer Breeders

I have a good friend who is looking for a French pointer pup from a decent breeder. Does anyone have any recommendations? Seems like a relatively rare breed and he is having difficulty finding some. Thanks for any recommendations. You can PM me if you want. Thanks! Dave

Braque on right is a Braque Francais from High Ridge Gundogs, he's pretty damn good for a young dog.

Do you know if he is looking for a French pointer (Braque Français) or a French setter (Epagneul Français)? If a French pointer I think there are two breeds types -Gascogne type, larger size and the Pyrenean type, smaller size.

There is a Pyrenean type I occasional see running the field near our house. Next time I can ask the owner about the breeder but I thought he said the dog is from Montana.

It depends on which breed you are inquiring about and what type of dog he is looking to hunt over.  I own a French Spaniel from Minnesota French Spaniels.  Damn fine grouse dog.  He's slow, close ranging and methodical. His gait is effortless, he could hunt grouse every day of the season (pheasant country take its toll though). He is however very "soft" in terms of training.    He basically hunts au naturele because he thinks I'm mad at him if I give him any commands.  Fine with me, he hunts better when I leave him alone and let him do his thing.

But this style is not for everyone.

He's looking for the Braque Francois Pyrenean type, I apologize for not being more specific.

Thanks for the info on this dog, looks fascinating. I sent him the link and told him to check them out. He is looking for the Braque Francais, not the spaniel however. Thans again
