Dog bumping birds

She pointed one last week and I killed it for her.  I have killed several over her where she is backing .  She smells and will pick up and bring dead bird to me.  She has not flash pointed nor even acted birdy before the bird is bumped.  I think that she is not smelling them. I just don’t know.    It’s very puzzling to me. I will be back into wild quail next week. For another week.  Hopefully things will be better

Update. I took my dog to a friends who has a property with early release quail.  My dog worked flawlessly. Pointed and held birds to flush and would not move until she was released. I can’t figure it out. Like I’ve said she for whatever reason just doesn’t smell the woodcock very well.  Or doesn’t smell them.

Well just got back from Kansas and my setter that was bumping birds showed out. Never bumped a bird and was right at the top of bird finds out of 6 dogs.
