A giant amongst singer-songwriters and one of very few, worthy of the title.

The ‘Wreck’ is quite something. Just listened to it the other day.

his lyric really puts you there. Amazing.

Seems like every year when I travel to Northern Wisconsin in October, some radio station will play "the wreck",  a classic timeless song.

Gordon Lightfoot is my favorite all time singer. Got hooked on his music when I was in college, and it all hasn’t changed in almost 50 years.

I will say this, after seeing him 4 different times in concert over the years, that while his music is fantastic live, he is not much of an entertainer on stage. Once, at a concert my wife and I went to in Los Angeles when we were in college, he started yelling at someone in the audience because they wanted to hear him sing “Beautiful”. He carried a large chip on his shoulder, and a bad attitude for the rest of the night while continuing his heckling of the guy. It was very unpleasant to watch.

A few years ago, at a small stage (and may I add, very expensive) dinner/concert at Livermore’s Wente Winery, his music lite up a wonderful summer night, accompanied with some great wine and fine food. But between songs, it was like he didn’t want to be there. The concerts at Wente feature entertainers who perform, but also interact with the audience more than usual between songs. Gordon’s music was magical that night, but once again, his on stage persona wasn’t very good. What a difference when compared to say, Peter, Paul, and Mary who we saw there twice. The last time, about a year before Mary passed away.

Lightfoot’s music is the best there is. Maybe we just caught him on bad nights, but his on stage entertainment value is very weak.

Been a fan since the 70’s. Driving along the North Shore in Minnesota listening to The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is special

Most entertainers have a highly polished chip on their shoulders, it’s the ones who can manage the attitudes who are great I have seen both sides of Gord...
