Suicidal squirrels----death by car

Recommended Posts

Dave in Maine

They're running around like construction superintendents who just realized Labor Day is in the rearview mirror and they're nowhere near finishing the job.

There are so many squirrels killing themselves in traffic that it actually made the front page of the Portland Daily Socialist a week or so ago.

In NH we have had a explosion of squirrels last year there was an abundance of food in the woods for them and they acted like rabbits so the population exploded.  Now they are searching for food the roads look like a war zone there are bodies everywhere not ones and twos but 20 and 30 at a time in a 20 yard space we need a heavy rain to wash the blood splatter off the road it is that bad.  You drive a mile and count hundreds dead we have had to resort to using street sweepers to clean them up.

At least the Crows are getting fat

I counted at least 34 dead squirrels in a one mile stretch of the Everett between exit 8 and 10 today. You might need to put the plows on the truck to get all of the carnage off the roads.

Not seeing the squirrel roadkill in numbers like others but did count 11 dead groundhogs and opossums on a 15mi drive to the job this am.

Roads don't cut it.  In bumper years they get into the barn lofts and shed attics.

Sure signs squirrels will be a-dyin' here.

There's an albino in our neighborhood. I've been trying to hit it for years so I can get it mounted.
