Fall on the Chesapeake

Recommended Posts

October is a tough month to beat around here.  As the water in the rivers cools below the temperature of the bay, the stripers head into the rivers to feed on the baitfish that have been growing there all summer.  Once they're in the river they are pretty easily located.  Good current and low light conditions make for some fun fishing.  We catch them trolling bucktails and sassy shads, fly fishing, vertical jigging, and fishing shoreline structure.  One of my favorite spots in our local river hear near Annapolis is a well lit pier.  This time of year I catch a lot of fish off that pier at night on light tackle.  This past trip we let the kids reel in all of the fish.  The action was fast enough at one point that they were lined up, ready for their turn at the reel.

I used to live near Church Circle and love it down there.  We still go down to the WF Festival a bunch, the Eastern Shore of MD is a special place.
