OK,

I start out with a small deer steak cut thick and a small elk steak cut thick, cube them up.

Cube up a couple potato's

Dice up an onion

Dice carrots

Sautee all in a covered skillet on low until it starts looking almost cooked.

Pour that all into pot with a generouse cup of water.

Start it simmering low and slow.

Add 1/3 cup of rice and a spoonful of butter or margarine

Add sliced mushrooms

Let it keep simmering low while you make dumplings up, I throw dumplings in oven on buttered sheet at 350 for about five minutes then add them to stew stirring slowly letting juice cook into dumplings and rice.

The key to it all is SLOOOOW...take your time let it blend and cook down, then salt and pepper to taste and it's on!
