10-4 on the Flyers v Pens.  They really don't like each other and go for the kill check when ever and where ever.  Should be a tough series.  The winner may very well be pounded out before the next series.

Caps. vs. Rangers. Caps win in 5, but if Ranger's goalie vastly outplays Theodore of the Caps,  it's still Caps in 7. Too much Caps firepower.

Well, since he signed the long extension last year, the Rangers no longer need to worry about courting Alex O.

That being the case, I'd assign somebody (Drury or Avery, most likely) to shadow him.  As great a scorer as he is, he's got very little self-control.  You hit and harass him enough, you can make him lose it and attack you -- if he's in the box, he ain't scoring.

Other than that, I don't see much chance for the Rangers to win that series.  If they somehow do win, there's nobody else in the East I think they need to fear, though -- they play Pittsburgh surprisingly well, for some reason.

As a huge hockey fan living in Boston for my whole life, I must root for the B's.

I do beleive this year is different for them. they have speed, depth, and goaltending.

i am very happy to be playing the habs in the 1st round. If we can get by them, we will be rolling for sure in the next round.

never count out the redwings......

I would put Dubinsky or Betts on Alex. Save Avery for some of the other guns. And keep Mara or Staal on the ice also. One of the things that will help NY is Dubinsky is hitting the back of the net. That helps change the focus on the Ranger lines that the Caps will have to look at.

Not sure either Dubinsky or Betts skates well enough to keep up with AO consistently.  Drury can really skate, as can Avery (something nobody talks about when discussing what an a*****e he is), and both will take the punishment required to go back and forth with AO all game.

Enjoy your discussion of who will win the East... None of them will take the cup however. Won't be able to handle SJ or Detroit... MAYBE Vancouver or Calgary... maybe.  :<img src=:'>  :D

If that is the case than Gomez will be the guy. Have you seen SI this morning.

Makes me wonder what they saw the last 20 games.

Watch the Canes, they are fired up.

Hah! Big tough western conference? Then how come Montreal (an 8th place team in the East) has an 11-3 record on the year against them, including beating the Wings?

Just some lucky breaks Ben. In Detroit you faced the back-up, Conklin, no world-beater. You beat SJ Sharks too, but you faced their back-up as well, and got outshot 46-21. Try that seven times.  :<img src=:'>

Oilers finally can Mac Tavish! YESSSSSS!

What coaches are available?  Or perhaps I should say "Which ex-Oiler who wants to coach is available?" :D

Dana, are you saying that all 11 games they won were won with horse shoes up their arse????:D If that's the case then I am going to say that the Habs will win the Cup in 16 games :p .

CR, you may be right -- those two western teams willl be on kruze kontrol until the western finals.  Not sure the East can put up a team after std issue Eastern kill-each-other hockey to be standing erect for the finals.

Ben, Coumbus was 13-3-2 against the east, but I"m not picking them to go to the cup either.  :<img src=:'>  We've seen far weaker teams than the Habs get to the final, so I won't say it can't be done, just don't think it's likely. They got mugged pretty good last time by Beantown. Just not sure they are tough enough. It's just an opinion. Frankly, out of patriotism I'll root for the Habs over any other eastern team. I couldn't if it was the Leafs, but the Habs are OK  :<img src=:'>

Theodore can't stop a frikking beach ball. But, that does not take anything about the Rangers' effort which was excellentlt coached.

Total domination by the Pens against the Flyers who were trying to invoke the Broad Street Bullies image by taking stupid aggressive penalties.
