John, I'm with ya except maybe the Flyers over the Devils. I never count the Devils out of any playoff round.

The upstart Coyotes might put a scare in the Wings as well.

Anybody know the answer to this -- when was the last time an Eastern playoff team that was ranked in the top 3 teams entering the playoff's went ot the cup?  Think it's been a while.

The Habs goalies are both worn out, this is typical of Habs hockey the past several season, strong regular season and no gas in the play offs.

Jeez John, in each of the last 3 seasons they JUST managed to squeeze into the playoffs in the final days. I would NOT call them strong regular seasons. As for their goaltenders being worn out, I doubt that Carey Price would agree. :<img src=:'> He played 2 of the last 18 games???

Here's my fearless prediction:

Pitt over Ott in 6

Buff over Bos. in 4

Pha. over NJ in 7

Wash over Mtl in 7 (there will be 4 one-goal games, incl. 2 sudden deaths))

Chi. over Nashville in 5

Phx over Detroit in 7

Van over LA in 4

S.J. over Col in 7

That is pretty corny. I would rather watch the youtube clip of Kane knocking the crap out of Matt Cooke.

Too many emoticons for me to make sense of this response so I'm guessing that Ben was extremely impressed with the high school production.  Especially those last two faces all full of love and admiration.

Yep VMI, it's corny as #ell...and I loved it!  Whatever happens this playoff run, one thing is for sure, Pgh is a bonafide hockey town.  BTW, it was cool to see how much attendance increased for the Caps this year, the NHL channel had a story about it.

Let's go PENS!

Jeff,

There was an article in the Washington Post today discussing whether or not the long time hardcore Caps fans will be willing to share their team and years of frustration with the inevitable onslaught of fair weather fans that success produces. Kind of ironic.

Never would have predicted these scores, and while in a series there is always a bit of back and forth, I think some of my predictions may well be in jeopardy...

Know what you mean, in the late '80's make-up of hockey fans in Pgh changed as it became the "cool" sport in town and gentrification of the stands occurred.  What were once hard core fans gave way to suits and designer clothes as ticket prices rose.  The play-offs became corporate outings.

However, it did seem that by the '90's, the stands were filled with plain old hardcore fans of every economic level -- they were all getting clued in about what the hardcore fans were doing during the games and it seemed to have a leveling effect.  Today, they all seem of the same stripe -- they all know who to boo, who to cheer and basically what's going on in the sport.  They also appreciated guys like Larry Murphy & Phil Borque as much as Jagr.

Once in a while in High School, a group of us would go to a game, make our way down to the bottom tiers after the 1st period on $3 tickets to join the other 8,000 fans at the game.  Today, the arena has been sold out for every game for a very long time.  Think how it is today is better than than how it was.

It'll happen in DC/MD/NoVA.

However,

GO PENS!

I have to admit that Ted Leonsis(Caps owner) has done a great job marketing the team. They have created one hell of a fun atmosphere to go and see a game. My 8 year old daughter used to complain about the fact that I watched so much hockey on TV. About a month ago I took her to a game. She was somewhat luke warm about the whole experience until the game started and the "Rock The Red" got under way. By the second goal she was up high fiving, dancing and having a great time. After the game she really wanted a jersey. Now she wants to play hockey. I explained that she had to learn to skate (she had given up on lessons a couple of years back). She's back at the skating lessons loving every minute of it. Now she wants play-off tickets right on the ice. I showed her on the internet that those tickets are around $1,500 each. I have a couple of feelers out for more "reasonable" tickets.

It is so cool to see kids get excited about good stuff. The light really turned on for her for bird hunting this year as well.
