UPDATE: Raccoon Catchin

Got him. On a previous Topic I mentioned I had mistakenly left dog food in a bin on our porch after we had renovated it from a closed-in porch to an open porch. This guy had been opening the bin lid and feasting on the dog food.

Took a few attempts with the Havahart live trap but last night he didn't manage to back himself out and the back door snapped closed.

Huge healthy coon--no sign of any sickness, mange or anything. I'm not anxious to get into any debate on whether I should have killed him or her, or that babies might be involved. I have a corn crop at stake that my marriage hinges on to think about.

I drove him 10 or so miles away and miles from any dwellings and put a local mountain between us and let him go.

Now, I have that vicious chipmunk to take care of...

He looks like a real hog.

Drop him off at Larry's or Mike's house?

Meany. Did you try and pet it? Did you feel it up to she if it was a boy or girl?

He's got a good point Brad, did you stick your hand in the cage and at least check?

I bet it was spooky releasing him/her....

That's one of the funniest things I've read in a while! :D

Brad, I'm surprised you released him--those things are like homing pigeons.  Anyone want to take bets on how fast he's back?

Did you name him Rocky?

No I didn't name him. If I did it would be "stinky".

I've caught them before and if you don't deal with them right off they dig the dirt through the mesh in trap and pee and poop and generally wreak. He got caught about midnight and I heard the cage rattling. I took it and him behind barn and put some concrete bricks on top and on doors so Houdini didn't escape.

He was in there til I was able to release him this morning. Peeeyeeeewwww!

Should have seen him humpin it into the woods at about 100mph when I opened trap door. Big bugger. :D .

If he or she does make it back over a mountain, through swamps and woods, over streams and beaver bogs and 100's of acres I aint gonna be so nice. Plus I doubt he'll fall for this live trap nonsense again either.

Corn hasn't tassled yet. There is time.

Gauge? Load?
