My FIL is polish and likes to make this stuff once in awhile.  I happen to enjoy it as well.

3lbs - brined cabbage or sauerkraut

1 or 2 heads of cabbage

a few prunes and raisins

1 onion

small can of tomato puree

allspice

bayleaf

2 or 3 oz's of dried boletus mushrooms

1/2 lb of venison or beef or whatever

1/2 lb of pheasant or duck or boar or pork

1/2 lb of sausage

1/4 lb of bacon

(really the more meat the better)

stew the sauerkraut, cabbage and mushrooms for 1/2hr - 45minutes.  Brown the meat and add to the cabbage along with tomato puree, onion,allspice, and a bayleaf.  Stew for another 45 minutes.  After this you can eat it however, my FIL prefers to put it in the fridge over night and stew it for 2 hours every day for the next 4-7 days.  

good stuff, I suggest eating it right before a nice long car trip.  :devil:
