Stanley Cup Round 2

Tom, I think it was you who said that Hunter is old school. That is true...there was only one way to play hockey for guys like him, Chelios, , Robinson, O'Reilly, Trottier, Messier, etc...TOUGH. I don't think that Hunter liked what he saw of the gang of millionaires in the new NHL and realized that he didn't need the aggravation of trying to instill a "team first" culture in a crowd that doesn't have the desire . I have often said that today's hockey is a great spectator sport - full of flash and dash, but old school hockey had that blood and guts, grind it out process that was more warlike...which a lot of us old geezers miss in today's game.

Dale Hunter and his brothers own an arena in their hometown, along with the London Knights junior franchise. They "grow" a beautiful type of hockey player, many of whom are much sought after by NHL teams at draft day.

The Hunters sure don't need the money :<img src=:'>

I too hate to see him go.

Henrik 1 - Marty 0.

It looks like the long layoff may have affected the Devils. On the other hand the Rangers didnt seem too wasted from their previous series. They got stretched really thin in the second period but NJ didnt convert.

With LA drawing first blood in the west......how would the hockey gods feel about a NY -LA final ?

The last time either team was in the finals, Barry Melrose was coaching the Kings and Mess was C of the Rangers.

In different years. Melrose lost the Cup to Montreal in '93, and Mess won in '94

Your right Ben,different years, but a looong time for both sides.

I think you meant 94 for Mess, when they elimintaed the devils in a thrilling game 7 and then went on to beat the canucks.

Yes, I miss-typed. Thanks.

Mess was amazing that year. He "promised" the Cup to his fans, and like Babe Ruth pointing out a home run, he went and did exactly that. Freaking horse, Mess was

As much as I hate to admit it, I think I would like NY to go all the way. I kind of like Lundquist and you definitely cannot knock his ability. Even though it would make a good story, I just can't get behind Broduer. I can't really put my finger on it. Also, the idea of a NY / LA final is intriguing. Finally, if the Caps can't be there it stings a little less if it is the team that knocked them out.

NY has Torterella, Brad Richards and Fedetenko all alumni of the 2004 Lightning team that won the cup. So you would think that me being a Lightning fan would be all over them winning, but for some reason I find myself pulling for NJ. No real explanation except that I really like Parise and this is probably Marty's last legitimate chance.

Doesn't matter who wins the west because I'll be pulling for the east team no matter who it is.

I am really surprised by LA's domination.

The Rangers sucked it up last night. What a frustrating game to watch. The score doesnt indicate how poorly they played and how much more energy NJ brought to the ice.

I dont think I have the patience for another long series !

I'm no fan of the media in general, but how would you like to be a reporter trying to cover John Tortorella? Now that would be a tough gig.

I wasn't surprised to see NJ win last night. NY has been off and on for a while now. I won't be surprised if NY wins in NJ on Saturday.

I am choking on these words as I write them being a Rangers fan all my life but Lundquist will have to steal this series because the teams play is so inconsistant. And I think NJ has a better chance of keeping up with LA in the finals if the Rangers don't kick it up a couple notches. Tort is going to have to work some magic. Getting Dubinksy back wouldn't hurt them either.

My surprise is the Yotes. I expected a better effort against LA.

Guys....I get busy and the Cup thread drops to page 2. What is late spring for if not hockey talk? Game 4 between the Devils and Rangers was eventful so I am surprised there were no comments. I personally think it would have been great if NJ's coach had climbed over and beat the snot out of Totorella. I am surprised how much I dislike that guy.

Man.....I can't wait for October!

I tried to stay awake for the end of the LA, PHX game last night but couldn't do it. LA sure looks tough for an 8th seed. The finals should be some good hockey.

I can't get too upset with Torts he coached our Lightning to the Cup in 2004. But he really is a tool.

Tom whose your team? The Capitals, or as they are affectionately known in Lightning country as "the Craps".

Uh oh! Looks like the Devils are going to stick a (pitch) fork in it on Saturday. King Henrik looked very ordinary last night.

To be the best, you have to beat the best. Everyone annointed Henrik the King, but your right Ben,in the playoffs at times he has been ordinary.

That was the crticism of his play in the past and up until this series,he has dispelled some of that, but in this series against the goal keeper who has dominated for so many years,he has been outplayed.

The lethargic 3- 0 start in the first ten minutes didnt help his cause. The Rangers also laying back and relying on him to make great plays doesnt help either......

When Henrik is merely mortal, and the DUMP and CHASE rangers dont get lucky bounces from the myriad of times

they just hopelessly and blindly dump the puck forward....they will get exposed. Which is why,as # 1 seed they have been pushed to the brink on every series.

Let me not even get started with how anemic they look on PP. I have never seen a team look more inept with a one man advantage. They dont eveny try to set it up !

THEY STILL DUMP AND CHASE even on a power play !

You guys always rip on Torts for his attitude ans smirks and what not,but I loathe the guy for letting them play this way !
