Boycotting Gander Mountain

Crazy Horse

I like things simple. so the way I look at it is if you don't stand with me you stand against me. And standing neutral

I consider to be a no vote against me.

The NRA isn't perfect. Neither is your church, your government and your dog. As I said, the NRA isn't perfect, it's much like your dog in that even though he may mess up once in a while you can always depend on him to be at your side.

I can't always say the same for companies and governments.

Proud NRA Endowment member.

Everything isn't about the NRA. I see this as about a very divisive Gov. whom a lot of people have reason to dislike that have nothing to do whether he's pro gun or not.

There are issues out there that transcend guns and the NRA.

I actually think Walker has been a bit of fresh air for folks in Wisconsin...said from two counties further north.

Scott Walker is probably the most polarizing politician in play today in American politics.

"Post hole prone."  :D

Bet I could give you a more polarizing list.  ;-)

If memory serves me the were three top sporting catalog/retail companies years ago. Cabelas, Bass Pro (Redhead) and Gander Mt. Gander disappeared or closed down right? And only recently re-emerged?

I don't know how much financial trouble Gander had in the mid 90's but they ended up selling their rights (for lack of a better term) to publish a catalog to Cabela's. In the late 90's and early 2000's they were opening dozens of stores, in new states on a monthly basis it seemed like. Within the past few years they purchased Overton's and kept the name but they still to my knowledge don't have a catalog bearing their name.

I had the misfortune of working at one while in college.

Post hole prone.

Love the smell of diesel coming from a cold engine.  Sorta reminds me of a girl I once dated.  Obviously she never would have been up to Greaybeards standards.

I think that has changed....

I don't buy a lot from Gander Mountain but have no problem with them. They support hunting, fishing and a number of pro hunting organizations. If I only supported companies that I agree with every issue I'd need to be 100% self sufficient.

I have a Herter's wool/canvas/down sleeping bag and a Herter's bait casting rod I'd be willing to sell for the right price.

You must be old like me!

I can see why GM is having problems. With this move they've managed to piss every one off. :upside:

I had the misfortune of working at one while in college.

Ditto, but in high school. It was my first job, too. Soured me on the whole department store thing ever since. In retrospect, probably a good thing. Those summers afterward working concrete gave me a lot more real-world experience than sitting behind a till...

Is this a corporate policy or a store manager level decision?

Gander is back online and offer free ground shipping on nearly everything they sell. Their credit card offers a competitive reward program too. My chapter of RGS holds the monthly meetings at the Gander in my county for the past couple years, we support them they support us.
