what would you do different

Recommended Posts

Hey folks,

Taking into account the diversity (region, age, how you got into hunting/fishing etc) found on this board I was just wondering especially from the folks who are now into their 6th, 7th, 8th decade what would you do different based on what you have learned/experienced throughout your life? For example: retired earlier, lived in a different area, family, change philosphy of work to live or live to work, etc.)

I ask because I like to learn from others as much as I enjoy learning from my own experiences.

Thanks in advance.

If I had it to do over I would become a small animal veterinarian and move out west, somewhere I could hunt elk and birds without it being a safari.

I would still have the same wife/family I am blessed in that regard.

My career demanded way too much time away from my kids and wife when the kids were small, thats the big regret I have.

Yep.

There are times I wish I'd have done more outdoors related things. I'd like to have hunted and fished Alaska and some of the western mountain states and I'd like to have been a little more adventurous. But that is all assuming I could keep my same family. If not, I wouldn't change a thing.

Would not have done anything differently, maybe been better at it.

I kind of liked the journey and don't feel I would change a thing except, lighting up that first cigarette. I could do without the smoking.

either gone in to the military (which I almost did, to fly choppers early 80's) or become some public sector employee... either way I'd be retired with a reasonable pension... or incarcerated

I would have married Tim much earlier before he became the barren, frigid wife that he is now.

trust me
I wish I hadn't let myself get too busy to keep a bird dog when I was younger and starting out.  Wife, kids, two jobs, I didn't think I had the time.  I should have made the time.

You will never have time. You have to make time.

I should have made the time.

You will never have time. You have to make time.

Had a business law prof tell me 25 years ago that very few people have time and money at the same time. But if you have one you can usually acquire the other if you have the desire. I have found that mostly true.

Had a chance to go to MIT in the early 70's minimal cost to me. The female owner of a auto dealership I worked for was willing to foot the bill all I had to do was keep her son on the straight and narrow.  Passed on it and joined the Marines where I was offered the chance to go to Marine OCS passed on it also.

Who knows what roads I would have gone down IF I had taken either offer

I'd save more money OUTSIDE the stock market.
