greypartridge
Colorado is beautiful but overcrowded and hunting resources very limited except for big game. This is my second time back to Colorado and things have really changed. The Denver - Ft.Collins- Colorado Springs corridor has turned into one giant metro-plex and is turning into another LA. I would prefer a mid size city/town with a somewhat vibrant stable economy considering the economic mess our country is in, with exceptional recreation ie. bird hunting/fishing opportunities within 2-4 hrs. Any ideas?
Remo
Being just a few years from retirement I'm wondering the same thing myself. And would like a milder winter climate. SE ID?

ScottGrush
Traverse City, Michigan. World class fishing, whitetail deer hunting, small game, good shopping, hospitals, culture, winery, and tourism. Big enough not to feel small yet small enough not to feel big. Don Steese
I'm surprised more retired bird hunters don't consider Arizona. Nice warm weather, low humidity, and desert quail. Don't know if I'll ever end up there, but it's certainly tempting.

The quail hunting can be spectacular on wet years....for me not much else to do in the heat. Swimming pool got so hot by the end of June that it is was like a hot tub The desert is beautiful in its own way....but too desolate for my taste.....miss the greenery . May-Sept too darn hot to even be outside. Love to visit and quail hunt for a month. Nice from Nov-Mar.
john mcg
Two areas in my 'would be great' column are the Missoula area and Boise. Upland and Flyfishing all around.
greypartridge
Two areas in my 'would be great' column are the Missoula area and Boise. Upland and Flyfishing all around. I agree. Have lived in Bozeman before. Cold and pretty long winters, Missoula more the same? Boise is on my A list.... although I have several mormon friends and business associates/clients, they have told me the mormon culture is to do business and support mormon run business's . I am comfortable with that, but it may influence my decision about moving to an area. Can anyone enlighten me on Boise? Boise seems to have a lot going for it, although I am aware it was caught up in the real estate boom and some of the Tech companies business is very soft. I am sure there are some bright spots too. john mcg
I lived in Boise back in the 80's. It is on a semi-arid high desert plain. The weather is dry and moderate, but not far up the road it gets quite different. I found the heavy mormon population very pleasant. A really great area all in all. I've mentioned it many times to my wife--I get the look. edit--correction late 70's.
