I just reread it and was surprised he mentioned Viagra. Cant believe its been was on the market since 2003.

I suppose it's true that time does indeed fly, when you're having fun...

You did, you have to admit, set yourself up for that one Brad...

Thom I am a dog guy but when I lived in LA I wouldn't let my dog near the water.

A good friend of mine lost both his springers to gators the same week, hunting ducks in January.

Wow -

I can't believe it has been 10 years sense brother Uppie's famous sermon.  It has been brought back up now and again - but sounds like we are due for a reminder.

Would be interesting to hear a more current sermon from Brother Uplander now that he has one - no, make that two - dogs supporting his lazy hunting habits. Has the good preacher seen the light?

Did you see the one where they saw a bunch of frogs in a golf course pond while playing during the day--and then visited the pond to take them that night?  The one where Phil--upon seeing the lights of LE coming to check out who the trespassers were--ran away to leave his kids to face the music?

Not sure I see that as good christian or wholesome behavior.  Not too keen on their videos that glorify the kill so much either.

They seem like they are playing the whole fame thing quite well, I'll give them that.

Good, Christian guys with hot wives, athletes, war vets etc. That's all nice but I still don't like the show. I just can't wrap my head around the reality show stuff and have difficulty finding the humor.

As Erik mentioned, there are certainly plenty of straight up duck hunters who do not use dogs. But, as Erik also mentioned, Phil does indeed use a dog. I won't pretend to know Phil's thoughts on dogs, but by appearance he seems to view them as a tool. One he gets on loan annually during the season.

Dogs can be a PIA on a duck hunt, or they can be essential. Just because someone doesn't use a dog it doesn't make them any lesser in my eyes.

Oh, and Erik I appreciate the circle you spun with Shaun.

I hear ya. A lot of staged BS. The hunt is what drew me to the show in the beginning (no to little hunt) & the eye candy kept me coming back for the first two season's but now I just have no interest in it.

A Lame Duck if you will with no hound to retrieve it...

Yep.  I made the mistake of telling my wife that "some guy" on UJ called the Robertsons "white trash" (Hatfield & McCoy thread).  I won't tell her he lives close by or she would be on her way there to kick his butt.

I know much of it is contrived by this time in the series, no one family can be entertaining years in a row.  So now I consider it "reality based", but still find it gratifying that hunting, fishing, and good values can captivate a huge American audience.  I still don't have much time to watch it or other TV, and prefer to do other things with what little discretionary time I have, but for the wife it is must see TV.

I remember when Bay was a puppy. Puppies are early risers so many a Saturday morning found us watching Duck Commanders. I had big dreams for this dog.

Forward fast to Duck Dynasty......same characters, same spirituality, same family values.

I'm a fan.

The most die hard duck hunters I know do not mess with dogs.

This includes my neighbor who kills upwards of 200 a year because he has structured his whole life around duck hunting.  He pours fancy stamped concrete for a living so works very little during duck season.  He has never been married.  Just hunts every spare moment.

 No dog.

I think he does borrow his cousins' dog sometimes when he is going somewhere that a dog would be useful.

I like Duck Dynasty and have considered getting cable to watch it.

That would put them more in the order of duck killers if he and his buddies bring home that many birds--you can't tell me they do not loose a lot of birds due to lack of good dogs--

Duck hunters - Duck killers - whatever.

It probably doesn't matter what I tell you about them or their hunting ethics.   The judgment has apparently already been made  - No dog = unethical.

Could be that they hunt with open chokes because they never take a shot that they haven't called into 15 yards...,  while the guy with the dog blasts away at whatever he thinks he might knock down long enough for the dog to catch...

Or it could be that they sky bust all day, crippling 400 ducks in the process of killing the 200 they bring home...  While the gentlemen with dogs only shoot the gimmee shots.

I think having a dog is beside the point of whether you are an ethical duck hunter.

But this is about the Duck Dynasty guys and not the duck hunters/ killers around here.  So carry on...

This does not represent what I have found in my previous experience of being a die hard waterfowler. I've hunted with those who chose for whatever reason (mostly out of pure laziness or complete irresponsibility) not to have a hound in the duck blind and found them to be extremely unethical & borderline unlawful.
