IMPENDING BOARD SOFTWARE CHANGES

Recommended Posts

Maybe I made the Board Software Change Novel too long... :<img src=:'>

Scenario I, as explained, would result in Members having to "re"-register on a new board from scratch, and all Forums would start out empty and would need to be populated with new Topics and posts. The board as you see it now could be converted to a static pages and information only "Archive" at considerable cost.

Scenario II is a Full Conversion from this board to another, so as I said, "theoretically" nothing will disappear completely. Member data, log in, Categories, Forums and old Posts should be intact. Ill believe it when I see the results. Im anticipating a lot of headaches and screwing around to get things right. If the Conversion works, this board as you see it, will be completely removed

That/Scenario II is what I am working on implementing.

Scenario II would obviously be the best--I hope you can do it without it being too much of a nightmare.  I for one would hate for my brilliant effusions to be lost to history.

If you can't get that done I and most of the rest of the folks around here will carry on.  There's really not a replacement for the atmosphere of this place.

do what you have to do.  One question, will loading pictures be easier?

From the original diatribe:

.... I have been working with DEMO’s of the best software and just finished a 5-day Demo of IP Board. It’s very impressive. It has built in mobile friendliness, flexible design elements, state of the art image, video and media uploading, Member photo galleries, etc. (No “traditional” Board no matter the software will ever be able to provide the kind of photo/video uploading capabilities as Facebook, but this one comes the closest) ...

Brad,

When you start the conversion, I suggest a fine bottle of single malt in your bottom drawer and a Springer at your feet, just to keep you in balance  :D

One request.  I know you are trying to save the old board, and we all hope you can but, if it comes out that we have to start fresh, please give us some notice so that we can have a ceremony. We could give out awards like "Most Posts", "Best Posts" "Best Picture", "Best GA"...etc.  It would be like The Oscars only with more diversity. You know, we would have pointers and flushers.

If you were more careful about what you eat, you wouldn't have so many of those embarrassing and smelly effusions.

My goal is to have the new board running by end of February. Otherwise I need to pay up the ying yang to have my host keep the current board and server live until it can be removed. There may be an overlap. If so I will utilize some of the Board Change funding I plan to solicit for very soon.

As one of those previously-described old farts...who just happens to have an IT background - I am in full empathy mode for what you are going through.  And you are basically alone no less!  With what I know about IP Board, you seem to be on the right path.  At least you should't have to use that Maine euphemism "ya can't get theya from heya"!

Let us know whatever you may need. There should be enough UJ-addicted souls out here to help out!

Thanks for the heads up Brad. As an old guy manager of evolving technology I understand that there will be change and overcoming new and lost features will be hard on some. While scenario 2 sounds like most attractive option its your baby and your call. You are doing the work. Given the nature of the board and all the work you put into it I think due consideration should be given to how much effort it will take to run the board in future.  Im really pleased and grateful you enjoy this enough to put in so much effort. Like many on here  Im happy to pony up to help with  a donation.

Brad, I will be very surprised and disappointed if the membership of this board doesn't stand up and give you what you need to continue this excellent site and keep it up and running. Count me in.

I'm in.  Just let us know what you need.  this site is my only vice (plus did I mention the lies you can tell on this site).  I have learned just a ton here.  Not the least of which was on body traps.  That info right there alone is priceless.

Ben (Bkelble) took this photo of Me (FlyChamps), Ron (Longrifle), Martin (not on UJ - or any computer) Al (Doubleplay) and Al's wife at lunch break during today's hunt.

This hunt and many preceding it was made possible by friends met on UJ.

Let us know what's needed to keep our family together.

Brad, nothing to worry about.

"As long as you hit that wire with the connecting hook at precisely 88 miles per hour, the instant the lightning strikes the tower...everything will be fine."
