2017 UJ Catskill gathering

Recommended Posts

Very relaxing weekend. Great to see all the returning folks again and great to have some new members come. Definitely more subdued this year but that was ok. I needed a rest.

Didn't take many pics this year but here is one of the man who makes it all happen and one from the porch of the cabin.

As Zoli said another great weekend.More food then we could eat.   I did well I shot my normal 98 out of 100.The 28 ga championship went to hayslope.I would have won but they wouldn't let use

Wayne (FMB) and his wife brought some very tasty wings! Although my wife also had a good time, her keen eye prevented me from over indulging on crab cakes, All's great luncheon meats and cherries in a

The ladies also had some blueberry/cherry crunch and peanut butter squares for the sweet tooth. Thanks Jennifer,Cindi, Jane and Sam for helping clean up and the goodies.   We retired back to

Once again a big thanks to Bob (polekitty , I like that Dickie) . If you like food and I mean all kinds of food, you have to make this event some time . It was great to meet this years newcomer Wayne (FireMarshall Bill) and his wife . It was great to see the crew and those that didn't make it were missed .

The 28 gauge shoot was extremely competitive . Don (Zoli) the guy from the North , came well equipped this year with his new Rizzini . He complained about how he hadn't gotten used to the gun and then proceeded to hit 9 for 10 on the first station . Could this be the new shooter to dethrone brushbuster ? All went pretty even with right to left crossers getting the best of all . We entered the last station Ted Moore and myself tied and Tony (hayslope) , 4 clays back . Tony shoots first and goes 9 for 10 . The shock heard round the UJ world  was silence ! Ted and I were stunned and shaking in our crocs . We both succumbed to our fears and Tony  won by one clay . It was noted that the Canadian signed the card under protest knowing that Tony had entered the contest having shot the course with multiple practice rounds .

Regardless , congrats to Tony , he can keep that 28 gauge till next years competition . Be assured , We will all shoot practice rounds next year knowing brushbuster will return with his new 28 .

Lots of laughs and no I did not enter the den of evil (polecat's cabin #3) but I did sit outside and enjoy some of Tony's bushmill .

Wow Dick you have really improved since I seen you because then it was 8 or 9 out of 100. xD

John if you were there would be a lot more pictures and a lot more to talk about

You need some more lesson anyhow.Start your plans  for next year.

Attendance was down , but the ones that showed had the usual good time I believe.  Great food as usual, nice weather except for some rain Saturday night. I have come to the realization I am NOT the party animal I used to be, so I was happy waking up without the hangover(s) I had experienced in previous years at this function. Thanks again Polecat for putting this together. Looking forward to next year !!

I did take a few pictures. First of all we are booked for the same weekend next July to keep this Northeast Upland Journal tradition going. Mark your calendars and don't plan a bowling party that weekend.

A bunch of us showed up Thursday to relax a little in the beautiful setting of the Pheasantry. Curt and Irish eyes took off to fish the Delaware but released the trout we kept the late night fire for. We fired up my grill with Ruffnecks homemade charcoal and cooked some marinated lamb kabobs, chicken sausage and brats and salad, with Sams deliscous Peach custard pie.

Friday morning was a little wet and we enjoyed some gourmet coffee from cabin 4 and 5 along with Richards bacon ,sausage and egg muffins.

Some of the driving force shooters McFeeley,Brushbuster,Irish Joe,Dave,Clint could not make it to egg us on. Their presence was surely or(sorely) missed.

Friday folks started filtering in.Lunch was burgers and hot dogs from Jpari  and his wife Jane with some chili from Richard.A couple from North of the border showed up.Ted was bummed his phone blew up and could not make it till Friday night. We had the grill fired up and held off till his arrival with Jamacian chicken. Then things started to happen.

A couple crockpots of sausage and peppers, salad, sweet corn and lots of appetizers.Ruffneck made a Napa cabbage dish with some top shelf cabbage.

Fire Marshal Bill

This was my first time attending the UJ gathering and I must say my wife and I had a great time. It was nice to be able to put a face with the names of individuals on this board. The hospitality extended to us was fantastic. Although I didn't shoot skeet I did shoot clays over the pond. And Al (gunrus) really did give me some good advice on my shooting as well as an evaluation of what to do with my firearm. The food was outstanding and plentiful. I also would like to thank Polecat for putting this event together. My wife and I are planning to attend again next year!! Thanks to all for making our first time a memorable time.

This is what was left of Hayslopes jumbo smoked shrimp and smoked trout, man they were good. More showed up Saturday nite.He and Ted kept me in good cold Pilsners.

Now on to Saturday a great day low temp and humidity. Most everyone was shooting the clay courses,5 stand and the pond.the 28 guage completion was on,something about a turtle for next years trophy. The staff shot with us on a new stand at the pond that started with an F,a little too tuff for my IC. Gunsrus Al provided a dandy lunch of prime lunch meats, cheeses and fresh breads. We even had some fine germans mustards by Hayslope.

My Jessie and new hunting buddy Teds Morty had a comical tug of war with Mom for the referee. They got along great,Fiona, the little black dog could not be bothered she hunted every tweetie in a five acre area.
