The Art of the Steal is a fantastic documentary about the sad tale of the Barnes Collection in Philly "The Field" is such a great film. Harris was phenomenal as The Bull. "Platoon" and "The Field" are probably the two best films Berenger ever did. Lots of good stuff so far. "Kalifornia" is well worth watching. Rocky for grittiness and quintessential underdog story lines. Breakfast club as it came out when I was of a similar age and made me think about cliques, social stratification and that underneath it all we’re not all that different. Resevoir Dogs for dialog only Reservoir Dogs, Fargo, Sopranos, The Big Lebowski, etc. Everytime I see Steve Buscemi in something, I always wonder if he'll make it to the credits? Chukarman
Dersu the Hunter. Kurasawa film. Awesome. Also liked Dustin Hoffman's first big role - The Graduate. A contemporary sympathy, maybe.
atticus
Not sure about the budget but Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange" jumps to mind. It kind of freaked me out when I watched it again as an adult. As a college kid I thought it was cool, as an adult I found it stomach-turning, creepy and frightening all at the same time. The book was even worse as I recall.
