The Broncos seemed too small and that SWB must have made for a rough ride. If not a Scout I'd look at the old Willys Wagons from the '50s/'60s.
Dave Medema
A local place has lots of toys. I'd be happy to chase up any details needing a first hand inspection. Just a few options: Ram charger. Land Cruiser. FJ Blazer. Bronco. These are just a few samples of their options on page 1.....of 14 inventory pages.
rideold
My first vehicle was a Scout. Paid $500 in 1986 for a 1970 with a 256 straight 6 motor and 3 on the floor. No heat, speedometer or windshield wipers (they were vacuum hose operated on that model). Had a custom drain in the floorboards made with a .45. The keys would fall out of the ignition on bumpy roads. Lost them once while off road. Finally found them after getting home lodged under the seat. Loved that truck. I bent the front end up when I hit a ditch lateral that was hidden in tall grass. After that it didn't drive quite as nice. Got great use out of that truck. I've a soft spot in my heart when I see one. It would be neat to have one again.

There in lies my problem... I love them all! I'd take that Landcruiser in a heart beat. The 4 doors are the 1 thing the Scouts really never had. God bless

henryrski
I owned 2 Scouts. The first was a 1972 with the 304 and an auto tranny. I loved the beast it would go anywhere. Unfortunately it was stolen from the train parking lot. The local fuzz said,"yeah I saw somebody driving it around 2pm. Thanks Barney. the second was a 76 with the 345 and four on the floor. She was a good truck but I traded her for a FJ40 Wish I had any one or all of them back.
Jakeismydog2
My dad's first vehicle was a scout. the old style with slider windows. When he was in the FFA he borrowed a small disc and disced his rented field behind his scout in 4 low. Then planted watermelons for his FFA project.

They have lots of cool toys.
Don Steese
Had one that kinda looked like the one Brad had. 4 cyl, standard shift. For some strange reason the only thing I remember about it was running one tank out of gas and switching to the other on the fly. My buddy had a fancier one with a V-8 and automatic transmission. He and his son put over 300 K on that one as I recall. Classic vehicles.
Flush
I had a 1967 Scout 800. Cool rig. I much prefer the looks of the earlier Scout 80 and 800 over the later Scout II, but the Scout IIs had better features/improvements. I don't know if it was a factory option, or aftermarket only, but in addition to front PTO (for winches) rear PTOs were on a number of older Scouts.
Canuck
I learned to drive on a 1964 Scout 80, slant 4 cylinder (half of a V-8) three speed tranny with manual hubs and transfer case. Air vacuum windshield wipers, a pull out throttle "cruise control", easy to remove cab, drop down windshield, all cool stuff. Top speed was just over 50. It would go faster but the transfer case whine was not very tolerable. I used to have a piece of inner tube that I would wind between the tranny and transfer case shifters to pinch them together and reduce the whine a bit. That vehicle got me through university. I used to park it in a paid parking area, pull an old parking ticket out of the glove box and slap it under the wiper and go about my day, parking for free, The truck had no seat belts and the doors locks were broken. It was a beast in the snow but was as squirrely as all get out when it was icy. Like I said...I "learned" to drive on it.

I didn't have a working gas gauge in mine after a while so I'd just fill both tanks and when it started to sputter flip the valve and then go fill the empty tank back up.
