Put the Jasper in it and be done with it if you want to keep it but remember that the vehicle is 19 years old already.  I saw a 2005 excursion the other day that was only $5000 didnt look at the particulars so I dont know a lot about it.

PM me where you saw it if you don't mind.  If its a diesel in good shape, that could be a deal I'd be interested in.  But at that that price I'm guessing its the V10 or beat.

If only you knew what the future brings with the engine.  My brother has been similarly situated, but he was at the point of no return.  He drives his wife's hand me down LX470, 1997.  She drives an LX570.  He has 342,000 miles on it and his mechanic said, "that's it.  Get rid of it."  Needs a timing belt change, the cooling system has a leak and the front end needs extensive work and parts replacement.   It has other issues, too.  He has located a 570 with only 125,000 on it, or is he puts it:  "Just broke in".  The dealer wouldn't offer anything for his current 470 and Tommy said he'd have to pay them to take it.

Put a transmission in it.

There’s no comparable vehicle on the market now.

I love mine even with the v-10,  I have a  '91 7.3 in a work truck that is at 391,000 and counting.  Burns a little oil.  Have a buddy with 527,000 on a 7.3 in a '93, injectors and fuel pump is all it has needed.  Hell of a combo,  Haaaard to replace.  My FIL has a '94 7.3 with over 400.

I own a 7.3L F350 with 245,000 miles on it. I bought it in 2008 used with low mileage. It is in good condition. As a preventative move I had the transmission rebuilt by a specialist in high reliability/high performance Ford transmissions (John Wood of Holtville, CA). I also replaced the stock transmission cooler with a much larger 'down flow' cooler and added a filter to the system. I am getting good performance, slightly better mileage, and the tranny runs cool (under 200 degrees) even when towing. Total cost was just under $5K.

Since I intend to keep this truck, and make a lot of LONG drives, this is a good investment for me - especially when you look at the cost of a new truck. I also insulated the cab to reduce road noise, added a 46 gallon fuel tank, and fitted Bilstein shocks. My next move will be a upholstery upgrade, satellite radio, and OME suspension. Awesome truck.
