rudyc
Started out as a turkey hunt, ended up a fly fishing trip. So it was a win-win. Shot the bird Wednesday late afternoon and from them on it was a fly rod in hand. There was a nice hatch going on and the fish were clobbering dry flies. Sure do like Western WI. We social distanced in the farmer's hay field this year instead of moteling it. Probably camp from now on. The racket between the gobblers and "yotes put a smile on my mug. Millriver
That’s a great trip. I’d love to do something like that here in New England. Not in the cards this year though. Thanks for taking us along!

Pretty sure they were a Caddis, light tan and about a size 12. My Pal that knows a lot more about bugs than I do says they are the early ones in the area and later on the darker brown ones will be around. This is what I was catching them on. Not really a Caddis, but it worked. I was trying to match the color and profile. I was using a 4 weight as well.

rudyc
Good eye, yes a bearded hen. When I was walking the logging trail to where I was going to set up for the late afternoon hunt, the bird flushed and crossed in front of me like a skeet shot. I saw the beard hanging down and shot. The bird folded like a lawn chair and when I went to pick it up, noticed the grey head.
