Vermont Bird

It’s been an odd turkey season in VT so far. I love to bowhunt for turkeys and usually call in a bunch of birds but dont have an opportunity to shoot most of them as I am very picky about shot angle and distance. The kill area is small and there are a lot of feathers. This year despite having good numbers of birds around I haven’t called in a single bird.  I have seen some hens and wandering Toms but none have responded to calls.  A Tom saw my decoys on Sunday and turned inside out running away.  This morning was cool and rainy. I set up my blind on a travel corridor and sat quietly.  No decoys. No calling.   I heard 2 gobbles on the roost and then silent. He came right down the edge of the field with 2 hens.   He is a big bird.  23 lbs.  10 inch beard. Spurs just about 1 inch.

DANDY.  Nice work. Sounds like those birds have been hunted some.

That’s awesome!  Are you shooting from a sitting position?
