Our first post-COVID walks were just down to the mailbox on the dead-end township road at the end of our lane - about a 1/2 mile.  Amazingly, we actually had to stop a couple of times to catch our bre

It was 53 degrees (!!) and the snow has receded enough that we went up on the mountain yesterday.  Grouse28 and Nancy on the trail:

Well, we made a mistake by leaving the box on the landscape timber runners.  Hard to see them in the pic.  Anyway,  a racoon appears have broken in, killed the quail, and ate the food.

Yesterday, the temps were warm and the snow pack had receded, so we decided to try to get to the wood duck pond for the daily dog run.

Joy got hot while running and stretched out down in the little brook - brrrr!!

They found a squirrel in a tree and each one tried to climb the tree to get the little bugger.  Didn't go well. 🙂  Bliss:

A couple of shots of the wood duck(less) pond.  There was a patch of open water where the little brook feeds into the pond, but most of it was frozen:

I'm hoping we will have some babies in the nesting box come spring:

Just for fun - a couple of views of the pond in summer:

They do pretty good, mountain sleds are built for that stuff. It’s best to stay on the gas though, they will get buried quickly.

That’s crazy! Way different from what I did in WI. I can see how snowmobiling can trigger some avalanches.
