x Bred Pointer
Bruce Shaffer at "Almost Heaven Kennels" in WV is a very good trainer. Specialises in GSPs but I expect he takes other breeds as well.

kgb
The Oak Ridge Pointing Dog Club members seem to be mostly Ohio and PA, they run their events just NW of Eau Claire, PA. Not sure if they hold training events but the members will certainly know of trainers. Some years back I had the pleasure of both judging and competing against Bruce Shaffer and his dogs. I liked what I saw. The dogs were absolutely first class in every respect and their rapport with Bruce was easy to see. He knows how to bring out the best in a dog while keeping everything that God and the breeder put in there. It was obvious to me that these dogs were brought along with a gentle hand. Another trainer who is not all that far from you is Dave Hughes in west central PA. Dave focuses more on competitive grouse trials and competitive dogs, and again, his dogs are absolutely first rate. He has won a ton of grouse trials with his dogs and if you are interested in developing a dog to hunt grouse, you could not do much better. He does a lot with setters, which are often on the softer side, so he obviously knows how to bring a dog along to very high levels of performance with minimum pressure. Good luck with your youngster.
