I don’t do the bucket list bit, but I do have a few things I’ve set my mind on getting done.  One was to see my 84-year-old father shoot a bird over my English Setter, Archie.     I took my fat

at almost 14yrs old his career is over but a 20 minute walk on easy trails still produces fun now and again

Still hot, still thick, still mosquitoes. Local woodcock numbers seem good this year. Had the GDR Merkel 12, Skt/Mod out today.

Tried some 3/4oz Kent 8's. Seemed to work well with the close shooting as the birds were in good shape.

Still waiting for the migratory birds to show up but we're finding small pockets of resident birds here and there.

Little warmer than I'd like this afternoon but we still managed to flush up two birds.

Connected with the first bird on the first shot...

of course the second bird flushed from the same spot about 6-7 seconds later

unfortunately I  had my O/U broke open, holding a unfired shell from my bottom barrel (usual selected as my first shot barrel) wondering why the shell was unfired.

Took me a second or two to realize the selector switch must have gotten bumped and was in the wrong position.

But in those 1-2 seconds of me starring at a unfired shell... yeah...that's when the second doodle flushed.

We won't mention that Emmit was able to relocate and re-flush the second bird and I still missed...LOL

Had an easy shot at another but fumbled the safety so had to watch it fly away. Got the one and choked on the other (easy going away shot in pretty open cover). The cover is still super thick making it hard to get to the dog before the bird walks off of her point. Clouds were in today making the temps a little more bearable. Great day overall!

Hey all, yesterday was our Pheasant opener, but we got about 2" of rain.  It rained all day and most of the night.  Went out late this afternoon, it was windy, saw birds, but they were a bit spooky.  Addie would pin them, but they wouldn't hold.  Did manage one, better than nothing.  My son Jim and I will see what tomorrow brings.

Last birds of trip and only posted it due to the unusual middle brown tail feathers on the hen.   Overall five days and many WC opportunities and very low grouse opportunities in prime habitat in Wisc.

Hey all, Number 2 son (Jim) and I went out today for some Ringneck hunting.  It wasn't the best.  We saw birds and like yesterday, they were spooky.  Even Addie had a hard time pinning them down.  She'd go on a real hard point and up the bird went!  Or they just got wild.  We did manage to get one each (the ones that held).  It was a good day to be out with my boy, that you can't match.

Jim, Addie and the birds.  Jim used his Victor Sarasqueta 3EC  12ga

I used my 12b James Purdey
