I don’t do the bucket list bit, but I do have a few things I’ve set my mind on getting done.  One was to see my 84-year-old father shoot a bird over my English Setter, Archie.     I took my fat

at almost 14yrs old his career is over but a 20 minute walk on easy trails still produces fun now and again

A great time in the Green Mountain State to say the least. My son was able to harvest his first Ruffed with Remington our ESS.

Early season South Dakota trip, tons of fun for Lucy, Tucker and myself. Spent one day with board member Ken and his buddy Jay who has recently relocated to the area.

Day one, a slow start getting access, lots of wind, clouds and high humidity. I shot the only rooster of the day over Lucy, beautiful close flush on a mature bird.

Similar weather day two with the added bonus of drizzle in the morning. We scouted some public land until things cleared up later in the day. Lucy had some nice flushes on hens and Tucker put two roosters in the bag.

Day three Ken, Jay and I hunted public land together. Tucker had a beautiful flush on a rooster in the cattails which I proceeded to miss but thankfully Jay connected. We tried another area for pheasants but a group of hunters beat us to it so we moved over to a field that Jay had seen Chickens in previously. Bliss Ken's dog had a nice point on a covey, I missed a bird Tucker flushed and Ken shot his first Chicken, it was a good day with fine company.

Day four I received permission to hunt my rancher friends other property. It was extremely windy and much warmer. Tucker and I pushed out a tumble weed choked fence line bordering a wheat field and took a nice rooster and the only sharptail we would see on the trip. We worked a bit further down to a tree belt and moved a half dozen roosters but none close enough for a shot. Spent the next few hours trying to get close to birds in the high winds without much luck. Right before the end of the day I took Lucy down to the tree belt I had been in earlier and we put another rooster in the bag.

The final day of the trip we saw more birds than the previous 4 days combined. Put 2 in the bag, one with each dog. Tucker flushed a group of a half dozen birds out of some cattails and we had one down. I took Lucy back to the tree belt for the final bird of the trip. We had a great time, best trip I have taken in some time. Looking forward to my return.
