I don’t do the bucket list bit, but I do have a few things I’ve set my mind on getting done.  One was to see my 84-year-old father shoot a bird over my English Setter, Archie.     I took my fat

at almost 14yrs old his career is over but a 20 minute walk on easy trails still produces fun now and again

Sage, the hun dog.   Scotch Double   The blue Subie gets me some pretty neat places   Warm November days

Since work kept me away most of the regular season, the boys and I decided to schedule a preserve shoot this morning....

All of the birds flew well, only one caught on the flush. Cover was very diverse and well managed and the oldest boy and I even shot pretty well. All in all a wonderful morning.

First point on a woodcock this year about 43 deg. 38' N :

Taser is ever willing to  go in, around and even under the cover to find a bird. 😉

We were out the other day in typical woodcock cover - a thick alder run with a lot of standing water . Taser had a solid point almost up to his "b----s" in water and I walked in thinking - "Well, here's the first woodcock of the year," - but instead a  pat came booming out, can't say I was disappointed 😀. No woodcock that day and no camera.

I have an Olympus "Tough" camera that I usually carry when afield and is much more handy than a full size SLR.

Steadiness has been the focus all summer.  Well, that and some long blinds and marks. But I’m more excited about this crazy dog being steady than the 200 yard blind.

She held tight here through a two bird popcorn flush.   I’ll start throwing in some primer shots over the next sessions and maybe toss a dead bird for a retrieve if all looks well.

I try to keep my dogs off the birds this time of year, but sometimes they get in spots where the dogs can't help but find them. I don't know what a dog smells they find a covey, or a brood in this case, but it must smell mighty good!  Anyway, you don't often see a point with all the green, but here ya go.

I like the pic of you with your boys. The acorns definitely landed close to the tree.

Believe it or not the one that looks the most like me isn't pictured!

First successful goose hunt for me and my boy Emmit. We've been upland hunting together for 5 years. Got tired of trying to find snipe and rails in Sept so we figured this year we'd try goose.

3rd time out was the charm.

I've now shot pheasant, quail, woodcock, rabbits and geese over him. He's an amazing dog and we're lucky to have him in our family
