Alpha 100 to 200i upgrade

Recommended Posts

I am going to upgrade Garmin Alpha (100 to 200) handheld and two collars.

Does the 200i take the same charger?

Which sponsor sells these?

No the 200i comes with a different charger. I have upgraded myself and very happy with the 200i.

The 200i has switched to the Micro USB charging port versus the Mini USB on the Alpha 100.

Pyke Gear (UJ Sponsor) sells Garmin products.

DuluthUPLAND,

Thank you for the heads up!

I love products made in the USA.

Is the collar long “wire” antenna the same on the new Tt15 collars?
I have an extra and if it fits I’ll keep it.

Does the new 200i come with the satchel bag like the 100 did?

I run two dogs. I have the three top buttons set like this:

Dog 1- one button, beep, the other tingles to get his attention.

Dog 2- Remaining button set to beep only.

Can the 200i work this way?

The 200i does not come with a bag.  The 200i is also very flexible on how to program the top three buttons.  One of the new features I like the most.

I much prefer the stim buttons on the 100 compared to the flat cheesy buttons on the 200. I know how to configure the 100 to meet my needs for hunting or training and the 200 has more features I'll never need so I decided to stay with my 100.

So. Convince me, teach me, because like coveyrise, I am not convinced and I am slightly confused on how to set up the hard buttons.

Just got my new 200i unit and the collar included plus another.

I can see how it is better, but I dontwant to have the dreaded buyer’s remorse.

How I used the 100:

one button to beep one easy dog.

the other two buttons for the hard head- one to beep and one to get his attention.

It is not easy to figure out from the owner’s manual.

Thanks.

Gundogsupply.com has some great YouTube videos on how to setup the 200i training keys and more.

When the 200 came on the market there was a forum thread about the enhancements and I had asked the same question. I consider myself an upgrade to the new version kind of guy. Over the years I went from the Tek 1 to the Tek 2 to the Astro to the Alpha. All those upgrades had meaningful enhancements. I just dont see the 200 enhancements over the 100 to be significant for how I use the product and therefore have not purchased it. That is just me.

Ok.

I hooked the 200i up to wifi and it updated the software.

Maybe I have to update the collars because they’re not communicating.

Step by step.

Depending on which collar you have the Garmin product to update is different.

To install handheld device software and map updates use Garmin Express

To install T5/TT15 software updates use Garmin WebUpdater

To install T5/TT15 Mini software updates use Garmin Express

Coveyrise64,

Yup.

Hooked collars up to computer, Webupdater.

200i is cranking now with Garmin Express, says three hours to download new maps.

Ok,

Got the 200i and collars going. It seems there will be a bit of a relearning curve for sure relative to how the 100 worked.

Is there an easy/quick less fussy way to delete the previous dog track and mileage? Similarly to delete my previous track and mileage?

This is not described very well in the owner’s manual.

This was quick and fairly simple with the 100.

Thanks.

Dont have the 200, sent it back but from what I remember Start New Hunt will clear the dog data, Track Manager to reset your trip data. Basically the same as the Alpha 100.
