Corner crossing to and from public land

Recommended Posts

For those of you that hunt public land anywhere, you are probably aware of situations were public lands can only be accessed by crossing at corners where 2 or more parcels of private land meets with 2 or more parcels of public land.  The legality of stepping over the border is sometimes clearly known, but in many cases, it is not.  No where is this a more contentious issue than in Wyoming's infamous Checkboard belt across the southern end of the state.

Now there is a pretty clear case being tested in court and Backcountry Hunters and Anglers and some other organizations are helping fund the legal aspects of it in support of corner crossing to landlocked public property.  There is also a GoFundMe page set up to help finance this.

Given the ever dwindling public resources for hunting, you may wish to contribute to that cause in general, even if you do not specifically wish to hunt the checkerboard.  I for one would like to see a way that I could access such landlocked sites so I have made a contribution at https://www.gofundme.com/f/corner-crossing-legal-fee-fundraiser

This topic is being discussed on other boards (e.g., https://www.hunttalk.com/threads/wyoming-corner-crossing-defense-fund.310386/).   I have no interest in starting even more discussion here - just wish to point it out as an FYI.

That being the case, please contact me next time to render it Read Only. Which due to political teeth gnashing and podium posturing Posts have been hidden and it’s now indeed Read Only. Have at it-off Board.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
