Dumb Question

Recommended Posts

Most auto stores sell the red plastic jugs to store

and carry gasoline.

My Dumb Question is do you know if it is safe to

carry water in these containers for my dogs on

a hunting trip ? I like to carry water from home to

lessen the changes of them catching giardia. And

I have never put anything but water in the couple of

red gas containers I have in the garage.

I am getting ready for a long trip is why I am asking.

Walmart sells the 6 gallon Blue plastic jugs for water for probably cheaper than the red gas cans.

Cheaper than the two he already has in the garage?

I can't see any problem with it at all.

Almost Heaven GSP's

DOH! Missed that.

A great deal would depend on the type of plastic used in the Mfr. of the red gas containers, as some plastics give off/release chemicals from them into the water.

Breakfast Boy

I don't see it being any different than any other plastic jug.  Just write "WATER ONLY" on the containers so your wife (or whoever) doesn't pour it into the lawn mower.

:p

As someone previously mentioned, plastic containers for water should be of "food grade" plastic to keep off taste from occuring.  But if you don't care what it tastes like, have at the red gas can.

Gary,

There's been some news on plastic containers with the recycling  number 7 releasing chemicals from them into the liquid.  You might want to check up on that.
